Nomination of 24 new heads of delegation

On Thursday 19 July, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced the nomination of 24 new heads of EU delegation around the world.

Europe.  Luigi Soreca, of Italian nationality, takes over as head of the EU delegation to Albania.  Swedish national Carl Hartzell becomes head of delegation to Georgia.

Africa.  Maltese national Alan Bugeja has been nominated head of EU delegation to Libya.

Romanian national Denisa-Elena Ionete takes over as head of the EU delegation to Niger, replacing Portuguese national Raul Mateus Paul, who has been nominated head of the delegation to the Republic of Congo.  Ionete is herself replaced as head of the EU delegation to Chad by French national Bertrand Soret.

Giovanni Di Girolamo, of Italian nationality, takes over as head of the EU delegation to Madagascar, replacing Spanish national Antonio Sanchez-Benedito, who becomes head of EU delegation to Mozambique.

Swedish national Jan Sadek takes over as head of the EU delegation to Botswana, and Spanish national Josep Coll I Carbo as head of the EU delegation to the Republic of Guinea.   Jobst Von Kirchmann, of German nationality, will head up the delegation to the Côte d’Ivoire, and Finnish national Timo Olkkonen will head up the EU delegation  to Zimbabwe.

Italian national Diana Acconcia becomes head of the EU delegation to Ghana, and Sandra Paesen, of Belgian nationality, takes over as head of delegation to Malawi.  The delegations to Senegal and South Sudan will be led respectively by French national Irene Mingasson and Irish national Sinead Walsh.

Asia and Central Asia.  French national Nicolas Chapuis takes over as head of EU delegation to China, and German national Patricia Flor takes over as head of EU delegation to Japan.  The delegation to Kazakhstan will be led by Swedish national Sven-Olov Carlsson, while his compatriot Marilyn Josefso takes over as head of the EU delegation to Tajikistan.  The leadership of the EU delegation to Kyrgyzstan will be taken by Austrian national Eduard Auer.

America.  The special representative for human rights, Greek national Stavros Lambrinidis, has been nominated as head of EU delegation to the USA.

International institutions.  Bulgarian national Meglena Kuneva has been nominated as head of the EU delegation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, and Belgian national Walter Stevens takes over has head of the EU delegation to the United Nations in Geneva.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
