Italy fails in bid for temporary suspension of relocation to Amsterdam of European Medicines Agency

02/07/2018 (Agence Europe)On Monday 2 July, the Vice-President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Antonio Tizzano, dismissed the application for interim measures brought by the City of Milan, on grounds of a lack of urgency of the case (C-182/18) (see EUROPE 11951). Readers may recall that at the end of January, Milan applied for interim measures to suspend the decision of the Council of the EU to move the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from London to Amsterdam, once Brexit takes effect at the end of March 2019 (see EUROPE 11908). However, Tizzano considered that the Council's decision would not affect the city of Milan, as blocking the agency's relocation to Amsterdam would not necessarily mean that it would be relocated to Milan. The proceedings on the substance continue, but no precise timeframe has as yet been laid down. (SPj)
