MEPs and ACP call for immediate halt to hostilities

21/06/2018 (Agence Europe)Greatly concerned at the continuing conflict and proportions of the humanitarian crisis, which is becoming worse in South Sudan, the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly calls on all parties for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for resumption of the national conciliation dialogue.  The emergency resolution adopted by 78 MEPs and the same number of their ACP colleagues, in Brussels on 20 June, puts this call into words.  The resolution underlines the fact that there can be no military solution to the conflict, and it highlights the importance of a national inclusive dialogue, under neutral leadership, which includes the opposition and the representation of women and the South Sudanese diaspora.  The Joint Parliamentary Assembly condemns the human rights violations perpetrated by all parties, and the attacks on humanitarian personnel.  It calls on all parties to the conflict to ensure humanitarian access in complete safety.  (AN)
