21/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 21 June, the member states gave their final green light at the Employment and Social Policy Council (EPSCO), to the directive on ‘posted workers’, an agreement reached in March (EUROPE 11972), but not without a last ditch stand by eastern member states (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Latvia), which insisted on the need to find agreement on the lex specialis for the road transport sector. Élisabeth Morin-Chartier (EPP, France), co-rapporteur in Parliament, welcomed the vote as marking an era of a "fairer Europe and a social Europe". Her comments were slammed by Martina Dlabajová (ALDE, Czech Republic), who demanded the respect of the "mutual agreement" on the lex specialis, referring to the rejection of the negotiating mandates for the "mobility package" in plenary (see EUROPE 12041).
