21/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – Luxembourg came out of the 'Employment and Social Policy' (EPSCO) Council on Thursday 21 June with the transitional period of seven years (two years + three years + two years) it had asked for to implement the regulation on the coordination of social security systems (regulation 883/2004), in particular its chapter on social benefits. The aim of this was to be able to deal with the transfer of responsibility for social benefits for border workers to the member state in which the contribution is paid, a provision that will hit Luxembourg hard due to the extremely high proportion of border workers in its labour market catchment area (44%). EUROPE will return to this. (PH)
