Member states endorse new Schengen Information System rules

19/06/2018 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 19 June, the Committee of Permanent Representative to the EU ratified the agreement reached during last week’s trialogue on the Schengen Information System (SIS) and the two regulations reforming it (see EUROPE 12039). This agreement created new alerts in the SIS: alerts issued for investigation control purposes; alerts on unknown suspects or individuals wanted in connection with the locations where serious crimes and terrorist offences have occurred; preventive alerts for children who are at risk of parental abduction or alerts relating to return purposes that involve the reintroduction of an alert in the SIS, as soon as a returns decision is made which should allow for improved exchanges of information between member states. Parliament's civil liberties committee will ratify these new rules on Wednesday 20 June. (SP)
