EU 'external action' post-2020 budget proposal neglects environment and climate, WWF bemoans

15/06/2018 (Agence Europe)The WWF is disappointed by the budget for “external action” post-2020 presented on 14 June by the European Commission, saying it does not tackle the global impact of the loss of biodiversity and climate change as it should.  In a press release, WWF considers as problematical the reduction of funding for thematic programmes and global public goods, increased reserves and flexibility, as well as the emphasis placed on strategic priorities as this could relegate environmental objectives to secondary level.  “Biodiversity loss and climate change are two sides of the same ecological crisis facing the world and must be dealt with together.  Investing in healthy ecosystems is the best way to strengthen the resilience of societies and economies”, especially in particularly vulnerable LDCs, the NGO underlines.  (AN)
