14/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – At their plenary session in Strasbourg on Thursday 14 June, MEPs adopted by a comfortable majority (519 votes to 112 with 12 abstentions) the draft directive on the proportionality test of new regulations on the professions. Readers may recall that amongst other things, the co-legislators agreed to provide greater margin for assessment to introduce cut-off rules, for the healthcare professions in particular. The list of justifications for cut-off measures would, furthermore, remain open by taking account of the case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU (see EUROPE 11986). The Council must now definitively approve the agreement ahead of the publication of the directive in the Official General of the EU. The member states will then have two years to implement it. (PH)
