On Tuesday 12 June, the European Commission is due to propose allocating a financial package of €6.14 billion to the future European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the period 2021 to 2027. This is a 5% drop compared with the current EMFF budget (2014-2020).
The proposal is part of a “package” of legislative proposals on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027. The Commission hopes to make the fund simpler and more flexible for fisheries.
