11/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – In press releases on 6 and 7 June, the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) and the European Rail Infrastructures Managers (EIM) gave a warm welcome to the European Commission proposal of 6 June on the architecture of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for 2021-2027 (see EUROPE 12035). The two organisations were keen to highlight the importance of this to the transport sector. That said, however, that they were disappointed by the allocation of funds for introducing the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS), which they believe are insufficient. The EIM believes that this is “essential for interoperability and security but also for rail competitiveness”, a position that the CER shares and which also asserts that interoperability is “crucial” for rail competitiveness.
