06/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 5 June, the EU hailed the appointment the previous day of a new consensus prime minister in Madagascar as a sign of hope for getting out of the crisis, forming a government and organising credible presidential elections. "The political agreement found for the formation of a consensus government is an important step for putting an end to the pre-electoral period of crisis in Madagascar. All political actors are now asked to cooperate with the new prime minister, Christian Ntsay, with a view to the formation of an inclusive government with the main mission of holding credible, transparent and inclusive elections in an atmosphere of calm and in respect of the institutional framework", the spokesperson for the European External Action Service stated. The political crisis over recent months was caused by the adoption of three very controversial electoral laws in April. (AN)
