06/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is working "in close collaboration with Kuwait, which currently chairs the Gulf Cooperation Council, in order to see how it can best contribute to their efforts of mediation, including through confidence-building measures", a spokesperson from the European External Action Service stated in answer to EUROPE, one year after the start of the blockade on Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt. In the EU's view, a negotiated solution to the crisis within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) would contribute to regional stability. "The dividends in terms of security and stability stemming from a return to unity of the GCC would not be limited to the region, but would go well beyond and would serve the general interests of the international community", the spokesperson stated.
