Jean-Claude Juncker announces additional funds for country

28/05/2018 (Agence Europe)On Saturday 26 May, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced additional European funds to support Georgia.  Saying that the more the country reformed, the more the EU would support it, Juncker announced "an extra €40 million worth of funds for this year's bilateral allocation".  "This brings to €597 million the total of our financial support for Georgia from 2014 to 2018", he stated at a press conference with Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, on the occasion of the country's centenary.  Juncker also announced "fresh macro-financial assistance worth €45 million".  This is reportedly the fourth time the country has been given macro-financial assistance since 2008.  In addition, Juncker and Kvirikashvili agreed to organise an annual meeting between the Commission and the Georgian government.  (CG)
