14/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 May, the Society of Audio-Visual Authors (SAA) took the opportunity of the Cannes Festival to repeat its appeal for fair and equitable remuneration for audio-authors as part of copyright reform. The SAA is drawing from a new study that demonstrate that it is possible to equitably remunerate audio-visual authors through the introduction of legislative reform. The study was carried out by Raquel Xalabarder, a specialist in copyright and current holder of the Chair in Intellectual Property at the Universitat Oberta in Catalunya, at the request of the CISAC and W&DW. It calls for “implementation of an international legal framework that introduces the right to non-transferable and in alienable remuneration for audio-visual authors”. This reference is currently the subject of heated debates at the European Parliament. At the Council of the EU, the text was also included on the agenda of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the EU on 16 May. Please see the following link: https://bit.ly/2jVUjDP. (SPj)
