14/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On 10 May, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service called for calm and dialogue in Yemen, saying that over the past few weeks, "a dramatic escalation of hostilities" has been witnessed. "This escalation runs against the commitment of all sides to a political solution of the conflict in Yemen and feeds into a vicious cycle of successive retaliations that risks to undermine the efforts of UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths and put the resumption of peace talks in jeopardy", the EEAS spokesperson stated in a press release. Griffiths is currently finalising a framework for negotiations. The EEAS spokesperson gave the EU's full and unconditional support to the statement of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres the previous day, in which he called on the parties to refrain from any new escalation and to take measures to protect civilians.
