30/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Twitter accounts of the European Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations and Neighbourhood Policy, Johannes Hahn, and his adviser, Annemarie Huber, were hacked on the weekend of 28-29 April. Their accounts displayed messages of support for the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Mr Hahn’s account affirmed, “I wish success to Cumhur Alliance in the presidential election” on 24 June. Ms Huber’s account announced that they had been hacked and that, “Actions such as these won’t stop us from expressing our strong stance for the freedom of expression. Democracy needs open dialogue and debate, not silence”. According to the EEAS spokesperson, “all the necessary steps were taken immediately by our relevant teams in coordination with Twitter”. (CG)
