30/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 29 April, the British Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, was forced to resign over the so-called Windrush generation scandal and her government's poor management of thousands of West Indian workers who came to Britain from 1948 to the 1970s (Windrush was the name of the first boat that landed near London in 1948). Some of these workers had never been awarded appropriate identity papers and had been threatened with expulsion from the UK, despite having received assurances of permanent leave to remain. The Home Secretary resigned after revelations that her services had targets for expelling illegal immigrants, as reported in the British media. This resignation occurs just ahead of the local elections on 3 May, which, according to the British media, will be a test for the May government. Amber Rudd has been replaced by Sajid Javid. (SP)
