EU imposes sanctions on Khatiba Imam Al-Bukhari terrorist organisation

06/04/2018 (Agence Europe)In the Official Journal on Thursday 5 April, the EU added Khatiba Imam Al-Bukhari (KIB) as a terrorist organisation linked to ISIL and al-Qaeda.  This listing is the transposition of a decision of the United Nations Security Council of 29 March 2018.  According to the UN, KIB was listed as being associated with ISIL or al-Qaeda for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf of, or in support of”, “recruiting for”, “otherwise supporting acts or activities of ” and “other acts or activities indicating association with” Al-Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant.  KIB is based near Idlib in Syria and acts in the Syrian provinces of Idlib, Aleppo and Hama, according to the UN.  It is also reported to have training camps in the north of Afghanistan.  (CG)
