08/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 8 March, the European Commission decided to send a reasoned opinion to ten member states – Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Spain, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Czech Republic, Romania and United Kingdom – that have still not transposed into national law the directive (2015/652) on the quality of petrol and diesel fuels. The directive lays down rules to calculate and report greenhouse gas emissions of fuels (see EUROPE 11213). The deadline for doing so was 21 April 2017. All countries failing to transpose the directive had received a letter of formal notice in May 2017. They now have two months in which to meet their obligations, failing which the Commission may refer them to the Court of Justice of the EU. (AN)
