21/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a press release on Tuesday 20 February, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) called for a cap on the working time of lorry drivers. The ETF is therefore calling for a maximum limit to be set on the working day, at eight hours, which could be increased to up to nine hours, twice a week. The organisation is also calling for a 60 minute break time every four hours of work, as well as a maximum 48 hour working week (80 hours over a two week period). Finally, the ETF is taking a position against weekly or other rest time spent in the vehicle. These demands echo those of the European Commission's proposals in the first "mobility" package (see EUROPE 11799), currently being debated at the European Parliament and Council of the European Union.
