05/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 February, at the opening of Parliament, MEPs paid tribute to their colleague, Edouard Ferrand of France, who died at the age of 52 after a long illness. Ferrand served as MEP from 2014 and headed the French Front National delegation. He was a member of the agriculture committee and of the EU/Turkey joint parliamentary committee. Before a one minute silence, President Antonio Tajani said: “Even if we did not share his ideas and vision of Europe, I remember he defended his position with conviction”. MEPs present did not agree with the request made by the ENF Group leader to postpone the vote on the report on Parliament's composition, scheduled for Wednesday 7 February. Edouard Ferrand’s funeral will be held at the same time as the vote and many ENF members will therefore be absent. (CG)
