05/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Concerned about the gravity of the political crisis in Guinea Bisau, the EU expressed its support to the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS) on Friday evening 2 February. At the end of a new mission in Guinea Bisau, ECOWAS has decided to impose sanctions on the people and organisations hampering the process of exiting the crisis. "The critical political situation in Guinea Bissau is putting at risk its institutional and democratic order, with serious implications for the stability in the region", the spokesperson for the European External Action Service stated in a press release, adding: "the EU supports the conclusion of the recent ECOWAS ministerial mission to Bissau (...) the EU shares the concern of the region for the deterioration of the human rights situation, especially regarding the political rights".
