22/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel underlined their countries’ resolve to make Franco-German cooperation still broader to meet the political, economic, social and technological challenges of coming decades. On Monday 22 January, the two leaders said they aim to “consolidate and renew our cooperation, with a view to moving forward towards a Europe that is more prosperous and competitive, more sovereign, united and democratic. Our ambition is to define common positions on all major European and international issues”. Paris and Berlin intend in particular to apply EU law in a coordinated manner, to bring their strategic cultures close Sauverr regarding defence, security and intelligence, and to “find European answers to the challenges of uncontrolled migration”.
