On Wednesday 17 January, the European Parliament obtained an overwhelming majority for its position prepared by Klaus Buchner (Greens/EFA, Germany) to negotiate with the Council on the proposal put on the table by the European Commission in September 2016 (see EUROPE 11634) to recast the EU control system for exports of dual use goods. This seeks to adapt the position to the dangers of human rights violations due to the use by dictators of dual use goods produced in Europe.
