17/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Romanian S&D MEP Viorica Dăncilă has been appointed Prime Minister of Romania by the President, Klaus Iohannis, AFP reported on Wednesday 17 January. She takes over from Mihai Tudose, who had held the position since June 2017, but stepped down on Monday 15 January following a conflict with the President of the Romanian Social Democrat party. The MEP, who was born in 1963, is vice-chair of Parliament's committee on agriculture and rural development, a member of the women's rights committee and of the delegation for relations with the Arabian Peninsula. She must now secure a vote of the Romanian Parliament in order to be confirmed in this new position. (SP)
