17/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission wants the progress made by the EU towards a circular economy to be measured against indicators. To this end, it presented a new circular economy monitoring framework containing ten indicators (which include EU self-sufficiency in raw materials, green public procurement, per capita waste generation, private investment and patents) grouped under four circular economy headings: production and consumption; waste management; secondary raw materials; and competitiveness and innovation. The framework is the subject of a communication accompanying the EU strategy on plastics presented the same day (see EUROPE 11940). Eurostat, the EU statistical office has opened a web page on the circular economy. The communication on the monitoring framework can be viewed at: http://bit.ly/2mEmt76 (AN)
