EU announces €7 million in emergency aid in favour of vulnerable populations

20/12/2017 (Agence Europe)To deal with the humanitarian needs of vulnerable people in the Central African Republic (CAR), the EU is to increase its emergency aid by €7 million, the European Commission announced on Wednesday 20 December. This money will cover emergency requirements for food, healthcare, drinking water and sanitation, housing and protection for populations affected by years of conflict, the resurgence of violence and atrocities in recent months and widespread food insecurity. It is vital that humanitarian workers are allowed to do their jobs under safe conditions, said the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, quoted in a press release. More than 1 million people have been forced to flee from their homes and 600,000 of them are internally displaced in CAR. (AN)
