18/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Friday 15 December, the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) welcomed the decision taken that day by Ryanair to recognise the existence of pilots' trade unions in the company. Steve Cotton, the Secretary General of the ITF, however, said that the Irish airline “must not stop at pilots’ unions” and had to recognise “all categories of workers". Eduardo Chagas, the Secretary General of the ETF, stated that “serious reform" in working practices is necessary at Ryanair, before calling on the airline to comply with the ruling made by the European Court of Justice on Thursday, 14 September on national laws to apply in these disputes (see EUROPE 11862).
