18/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – A report published on Monday 18 December shows a sharp increase in organ donation and transplants in the EU in recent years. The report was conducted for the European Commission between 2016 and 2017, to evaluate the impact of the 2009-2015 Action Plan on Organ Donation and Transplantation. It reveals that the total number of organ donors rose by 21% between 2008 and 2015 (an increase of 29.5% in living organ donors and a 12% rise in deceased organ donors) to 14,900. The number of transplants increased by 17% over the same period, reaching 32,707 in 2015. The close to 500-page report concludes with a number of recommendations and states that many member states support renewal of the action plan. The report can be found at: http://bit.ly/2CXmfPS. (SPj)
