Annual inflation rate 1.5% in Eurozone and 1.8% in the EU in November

The annual inflation rate was up in both the Eurozone and the European Union as a whole in November compared to October, according to figures published by the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Monday 18 December.

The annual inflation rate stood at 1.5% in the Eurozone in November, compared to 1.4% in October. This rate was also up by 0.1% in the European Union, standing at 1.8% in November, from 1.7% one month previously. Furthermore, this increase is particularly significant when compared to the figures from November 2016, when the inflation rate stood at 0.6% in both the Eurozone and the EU.

Nevertheless, this overall figure disguises considerable disparities between the member states of the EU. Although the annual inflation rate was less than 1% in November in Cyprus (+0.2%), Ireland (+0.5%) and Finland (+0.9%), it was considerably higher in the United Kingdom (+3.1%), Lithuania (+4.2%) and Estonia (+4.5%), the three countries at the top of the list.

Fuels for transport, diesel heating and milk, cheese & eggs made the greatest contribution to this increase in prices, with an impact of 0.21%, 0.07% and 0.05% respectively on the annual inflation rate.  (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
