27/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – The spokesperson for the European External Action Service, speaking on Friday 27 October, criticised the decision, the previous day, of the High Appeal Court of Bahrain to dissolve the National Democratic Action Society (Waad), stating that this decision “contravenes provisions on the freedoms of speech and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Bahrain”. The opposition movement was dissolved on 31 May for “supporting terrorism and incitement to encourage crimes”. “The European Union has repeatedly expressed this position to the authorities in Manama, who have a duty to ensure that citizens of Bahrain retain their ability to create and participate in political parties, in full respect of their political and civil rights”, the spokesperson added.
