27/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – In n a letter dated 27 September and leaked to British newspaper The Guardian on 26 October, the co-leaders of the Greens/EFA Group at the European Parliament, Ska Keller and Philippe Lamberts, and the leaders of the S&D Group, Gianni Pittella, ALDE Group, Guy Verhofstadt, and GUE/NGL Group, Gabriele Zimmer, called on EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to try to obtain a proposal from the Council for issuing a European arms embargo on Saudi Arabia due to the Yemeni conflict. Despite the number of victims in the Yemen – at least 10,000 killed and 40,000 injured – arms exports from EU member states to Saudi Arabia have continued, the MEPs state in a letter seen EUROPE. The European Parliament has already called for an arms embargo in a number of resolutions. (CG)
