Inter-institutional negotiations on motor vehicle approval and market surveillance postponed

26/10/2017 (Agence Europe)According to two European sources, the inter-institutional dialogue meeting on the regulation on approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles, initially scheduled for 9 November, has been postponed until 23 November, principally because of time constraints, EUROPE has been told.  One source said, however, that coordination between the delegations and among the political groups is taking longer than expected, hence the postponement.  The stated goal of the different European institutions is to reach an inter-institutional agreement before the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU ends.  Recently, the Council took a step forward and said it would be prepared to accept a compulsory role for the European Commission in the market surveillance of motor vehicles (see EUROPE 11881), though with concessions from the Parliament.
