26/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 October, the European Commission published a 'questions and answers' document to clarify the way in which EU investment companies should deal with non-EU brokers providing them with brokerage and research services. In a press release, European Commissioner for Financial Services Valdis Dombrovskis underlined the cooperation between the EU and the United States in this matter, welcoming the decision of the US Securities and Exchange Commission to simultaneously agree to relief for US brokers supplying research to EU firms. In particular, the document explains how European businesses can obtain these services in full respect of the obligations upon them under the revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II), which will enter into force in January 2018.
