Parliament relaunches call for European legislation

26/10/2017 (Agence Europe)Against a surging backdrop of allegations through the #MeToo campaign, the European Parliament has relaunched its 2014 call for a European strategy against all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls, including a legislative proposal containing binding instruments.  The joint resolution adopted on Thursday 26 October also calls for allegations of harassment and sexual abuse in the Parliament to be investigated.  The resolution says that Parliament should introduce mandatory training for all staff and MEPs on respect and dignity at work, maintain a confidential register of cases, set up a task force of independent experts and improve formal procedures and support for victims in proceedings within the Parliament and/or with the local police.   (SPj)
