Publication of eight more EU negotiation texts for a free trade agreement

Following the third round of talks, in Brussels on 11-15 September, for an EU-Indonesia free trade agreement, the European Commission published its progress report on these negotiations on Friday 29 September, along with eight initial text proposals that the EU sent Indonesia ahead of this round.

The progress report sets out progress in all areas of the negotiation, including trade in goods and services, investment and technical barriers to trade.

In a press release, the Commission speaks of "good engagement" from both partners and says the teams have "progressed onto text-based discussions on nearly all chapters".   A long list of tasks to be carried out has been agreed and will be reviewed at the next round of talks in early 2018.

The EU text proposals that were tabled for negotiation in September and that have now been published cover: management of preferential treatment; digital trade; dispute settlement; energy and raw materials; technical barriers to trade; trade in goods; sustainable development; and assistance in mutual customs assistance.

These text proposals come on top of those already published in February covering: competition policy; cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary measures; access to public procurement; intellectual property (including the protection of geographical indications); customs and trade facilitation; state-owned enterprises and monopolies; SMEs; rules of origin; and trade remedies (anti-dumping duties).
