29/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – In an opinion drafted by Daniel Dalton (ECR, UK) that was adopted by the European Parliament’s internal market and consumer protection committee on Thursday 28 September, MEPs call for closer scrutiny at European level of national approval authorities and technical services. MEPs also call for vehicles on the market to be monitored to ensure that they continue to comply with European standards. These recommendations and calls are reminiscent of those made by Parliament on the regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles with regard to emissions of polluting gases, on which Dalton is also the rapporteur (see EUROPE 11762). The vote on the initiative report, with a view to which the opinion was delivered, is planned to be held in the transport and tourism (TRAN) committee on 11 or 12 October. (PH)
