Member states approve mechanism to facilitate returns of illegal migrants to Bangladesh

On Wednesday 20 September, the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) to the member states ratified the draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) between Bangladesh and the EU. This draft is expected to be signed next week during the United Nations session in New York. Its aim is to facilitate returns to the country of origin for Bangladeshi migrants who are unable to remain in the EU.

This agreement has been subject to discussions for months and was finalised that the end of August....
