20/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – The Open Internet Project (OIP) has objected to a corrective measure that the American giant Google may propose to the Commission (see EUROPE 11865) to end accusations of abuse of dominant position, following the fine of €2.42 billion handed down at the end of June (see EUROPE 11817). This system, which would effectively allow competitors to bid against Google Shopping in order to be included in the Google comparison tool, “would not be acceptable”, the organisation said in a press release dated Tuesday 19th September, as it would effectively allow Google “to be paid by the very victims of its abuse of dominance”. Furthermore, the tool would be reinforced by such a system, affecting competition and harming consumers, OIP argues. Readers may recall that Google has appealed against the Commission's decision of 27 June (see EUROPE 11859). (LT)
