Commission consults on application of automobile insurance directive

28/07/2017 (Agence Europe)The European Commission has launched a public consultation on protecting victims of motor vehicle accidents.  This will continue until Friday 20 October and is an initiative that was announced in the recent action plan for retail financial services (see EUROPE 11752).  The consultation will gather opinions from interested parties on how the guarantee funds that are provided for in European legislation last amended in 2009 (Directive 2009/103) work, especially in cases where the insurer of the liable party becomes insolvent.  The consultation will also increase the role of the insurance claims history of individuals when moving between EU member states, which is used to calculate no-claims discounts.  "If accidents happen in the EU, no matter if in your home country or abroad, proper compensation mechanisms should be in place", European Commissioner for Financial Services Valdis Dombrovskis stated in a press release.  The consultation can be found at: http://bit.ly/2uIHiSu   (MB)
