Warsaw tightens up its legal system another notch

On Wednesday 12 July, the Polish parliament adopted two legal bills described by the opposition as a further step towards complete control of the judicial system for the Conservative majority, weakening the separation of powers.

The first bill provides for the members of the National Court Register (KRS) to be selected by the Parliament. The second, on the common law courts regime, provides for the presidents of the courts to be appointed by the Justice Minister.
