Commission demands immediate suspension of tree-felling in Bialowieza Forest

13/07/2017 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 13 July, the European Commission decided to take Poland to the European Court of Justice because of a tripling of the felling of trees over a hundred years old and commercial use of areas of the forest previously left to nature in Białowieża Forest, labelled as a conservation area in the EU’s 'Natura 2000' system (see EUROPE 11536).  The Commission is asking the Court to introduce provisional measures requiring Warsaw to immediately suspend...
