According to the latest short-term agricultural outlook (for 2017/2018) published by the European Commission on Wednesday 12 July, the heatwave in some countries, particularly Spain, will lead to lower cereal production in the EU.
The Commission says neither cereal production nor the 2017/2018 marketing year will be lower on average than in previous years. With an expected rise of 3.4 million tonnes on 2016/2017, total certain production in the EU is expected to reach 298 million tonnes.
