EU calls for release of human rights defender Nabeel Rajab

11/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 11 July, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) called for the release of human rights defender Nabeel Rajab, who was sentenced the previous day to two years' imprisonment in absentia for spreading "false news" in media interviews he gave in 2015 and 2016.  His sentence "runs against Bahrain's commitment to uphold freedom of expression and work towards creating space for independent activism", the spokesperson said in a...
