26/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Space Agency (ESA) and 16 satellite sector industrial groups signed a joint declaration during the international aeronautics and space exhibition in Bouget, near Paris, on Wednesday 21 June. The aim of the declaration is to strengthen their cooperation in the new “Satellite for 5G” initiative. This initiative will last two years (2018-20) and cooperation will focus on ventures in the transport, media and recreation sectors, as well as public security, applications development, standardisation and strengthening resources management and technological interoperability. In this regard, the ESA explained in a press release that it intends to create a framework to develop action by the industry and strengthen institutional coordination, particularly with the European Commission. The European Parliament recently reached a position in favour of the swift development of this technology (see EUROPE 11800). (PH)
