29/05/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 30 May, the European Commission is expected to vote on its proposals for introducing criteria to define endocrine disruptors. This will be the eighth meeting since the presentation of the said legislative proposals during the middle of 2016 (EUROPE 11573). At a general level, the text suggests retaining three criteria for identifying active substances: the appearance of unwanted side-effects, the endocrine mode of action (which helps explain effects at a cellular and molecular level), as well as the correlation between the two previous criteria. The difference between this and the previous text initially presented is that it also proposes to authorise active substances that have been developed for disrupting the endocrine systems in different organisms other than vertebrates and maintaining the current derogations that facilitate the authorisation of certain pesticides or biocides that disrupt the endocrine system.
