15/05/2017 (Agence Europe) – UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson said over the weekend that it could very well be the European Union that ends up owing the United Kingdom money when the UK leaves the EU. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Johnson said that there were “very good arguments” for believing that this could be the case. “They are going to try to bleed this country white with their bill”, he went on, threatening that the UK could walk away without paying anything. He said that “there are assets that we share, that we have paid for over the years and there will need to be a proper computation of the value of those assets”. Some calculations put the cost of leaving the EU at €40-60 billion and this cost could change the European Commission has warned. (SP)
