Massive global cyber-attack spares European institutions

15/05/2017 (Agence Europe)On Monday 15 May, the European Commission indicated that it had not been the victim of the massive global cyber attack launch on Friday 12 May in 150 countries and which has affected 200,000 people. It also said that It did not have any knowledge about the impact of the attack on the other European institutions and agencies. The Commission spokesperson, Margaritis Schinas, said that such an attack “requires a continually more co-ordinated response” and called on all the different public and private actors to assume their responsibility in this connection. The European Centre against Cybercrime, EC3 and Europol are working in close collaboration with the cybercrime units in the countries affected, as well as the main industry partners, in an attempt to mitigate the threat and help the victims, explained the European Police Office on 13 May. (SP)
