07/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – On request from a player in a remote region, further explanation is needed about an article on a memorandum from outermost regions (OR) published on Thursday 6 April (see EUROPE 11763), about use of the expression ‘special and differentiated treatment’ for OR mentioned on page 15 of the memorandum. The expression refers to a much wider context relating to multilateral agreements under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the EU’s position, which defends this ‘special and differentiated treatment’ for developing and less advanced countries. The ORs are trying to make the EU face its contradictions and are calling for such treatment to also be extended to ORs within the framework of the WTO. (PH)
