07/04/2017 (Agence Europe) – As part of a citizens' dialogue at the University of Vistula in Warsaw on Friday 7 April, European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström outlined the role of foreign trade in supporting economic growth and creating jobs in Poland. Taking the example of the EU-Canada free trade agreement (CETA), Malmström set out its advantages for Polish companies in sectors such as cosmetics, fruit and vegetables, and luxury yachts. Overall, nearly 2,000 Polish companies are involved in exporting to Canada, with exports in 2015 worth 5 billion Polish zloty. Saying that 1.5 million Polish jobs depended on exports outside the EU, Malmström set out the EU's ambitious programme of trade negotiations with Mexico, Japan, South America and South-East Asia. While in Warsaw, Malmström also met Jerzy Kwieciński, the Polish secretary of state for economic development. (EH)
